Japanese Textile Dyeing workshop with Kiyomi Yatsuhashi

Winchester artist Kiyomi Yatsuhashi will give an introduction to traditional Japanese textile dyeing, and teach basic techniques of Shibori indigo dyeing. Workshop participants will have a chance to create a unique textile piece to take home, and a piece to be contributed to a community art installation for Peace.

Yatsuhashi has been using Japanese dyeing techniques rozome, katazome, shibori and indigo dyeing for several years. She feels a special connection to her Japanese ancestors and their deep appreciation for nature. Her imagery and process are inspired by the wonder of each season as displayed in the sky, water and wind. Through her practice, observing movement and change in nature is a form of meditation that heals and nourishes the soul.  With her textiles, she hopes to create spaces where one can relax and reflect on the beauty of nature.
